On the heels of the fifth-generation Lexus LS’ world premiere, today we’re getting our first look at the hybrid version: the 2018 LS 500h. Ain’t she a beauty? As you’d expect, she looks a lot like her big, beautiful sister: the 2018 LS 500 that was recently dropped in Detroit and is currently being ogled in Chicago. But the LS 500h is a different beauty altogether, deserving of her own time in the spotlight. We now know that spotlight will beam brightly March 7 at the Geneva Motor Show. But while the announcement of a debut may seem to take some steam out of the actual debut, there are still some surprises left in store. First and foremost, we don’t yet know what powertrain the new hybrid flagship will employ. Motor Authority suspects the LS hybrid could share the same Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System technology that gives the LC 500h 354 actively-engaged horsies. Of course, the LC is a sporty 2+2 coupe, and the LS is more of a moving couch. Granted, … [Read more...] about 2018 LS 500h Coming to Geneva

Fresh off winning the EyesOn Design award for its stunning interior design, the Lexus LC has another prize to add to the trophy case. The groundbreaking coupe was named “Production Car Design of the Year,” a prestigious peer-reviewed award. The award, judged by a panel of some of the world’s top car designers, is handed out each year at the Geneva Motor Show. The panel of judges particularly enjoyed the production LC’s similarity to the beautiful LC concept, a practice that you don’t often see these days. Guy Bird, editor of Car Design Review 4, says, “It was great to see the fantastic LF-LC concept faithfully translated into the beautiful LC production car with so little compromise. This is a rare thing in the automotive industry and should be celebrated.” Bird went on to praise the “curvaceous couple” for its “daring surfacing, unforgettable face and unique character.” LC Chief Designer Tadao Mori elaborated … [Read more...] about Lexus LC Awarded ‘Production Car Design of the Year’
The 2018 Lexus LC 500h may still be a long way off, but the Lexus marketing campaign is already in full gear. Remember when that blue LC 500 was spied filming a commercial in Spain last month? Well, it looks like that was actually the LC 500h, as shown in the gorgeous introduction video below. The video accompanies the LC 500h’s big debut at the Geneva Motor Show this week. As you can see, not one word is spoken, as the beauty of the car and the setting (and perhaps the couple driving it) do most of the talking. The only words we get are in the form of text at the end, which reads: “The new Lexus LC 500h with Multistage Hybrid.” Obviously, the fact that Lexus specifically mentions the multistage hybrid, and nothing else, is significant. Indeed, after the design, it’s the second bullet-point on the debut press release. According to the release: In “M-Mode,” you can even initiate gear shifts, the first time that feature’s been offered for a … [Read more...] about Lexus LC 500h Is Ready for Its Close-Up
There’s no doubt that Lexus has been steadily gobbling up some of Western Europe’s luxury automobile market, but they still have a long road ahead if they want to beat out the Germans. The LC 500 and LC 500h should help make up some ground. Lexus already crushes Western Europe in the premium hybrid market, with 45% of total sales. Of the 64,000 Lexus cars sold in the region, 95% were hybrids. And many of the marque’s 70,000 projected sales for 2016 will also likely be hybrids — a viable alternative to the uber-popular diesel. With the LC 500h, which is set to debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March, that hybrid market share should get even better. Partly because Lexus will be able to offer a hybrid that feels just at home on the autobahn as in stop-and-go traffic. Still, Alain Uyttenhoven, head of Lexus Europe, tells WardsAuto that the new LC cars won’t necessarily be competing with other sports cars in the region. “We see this car as a GT rather than … [Read more...] about Could the LC 500 and 500h Be the Answer in Europe?
