A dream run is not how we'd like to define Suzuki's stint in the Indian motorcycling segment. However, they have tasted a decent amount of success with the GS 150R and more so with their really rather fantastic Access 125 variomatic scooter.At the 2012 Auto Expo, Suzuki looks certain to finally take the plunge into the sub-250cc performance motorcycle segment. It has only recently unveiled the Inazuma 250 to the UK audience, and it undercuts both, the Ninja 250R and the CBR 250R too, on the pricing front. So what, you ask? Well, while the CBR 250R is a full-faired number, the Inazuma makes up for its lack of bodywork by incorporating an extra cylinder. Yes, it's a parallel-twin! Hero MotoCorp, with it’s technology sharing agreement with Honda ending soon, took the opportunity at this Auto Expo to showcase their research and development capabilities to the world. This R&D department, set-up at Gurgaon and Dharuhera, brought us a hybrid scooter concept called the Leap. The name signifies advancements in technology, not just for Hero MotoCorp, but for the whole industry, they say.The Leap is a hybrid scooter powered by a petrol engine and to supplement that an electric motor is also present. To power the electric motor, there is a more powerful battery on it.The Leap incorporates youthful styling and new technology that has never been seen before. TVS decided to focus on going green at the 2012 Auto Expo and displayed their new green technologies.Perhaps the most significant technology they unveiled was the new automatic transmission that they have developed entirely in house. The transmission is a continuous variable transmission or CVT and is designed to enhance fuel efficiency by as much as 20 per cent. It maximises engine performance and peak efficiency by overriding the clutch. TVS currently has a patent pending for this particular technology.Also displayed at the TVS stall were the TVS Sport, TVS Torma, TVS Radio and TVS Qube. Yamaha has made good its promise of entering the Indian scooter market. The manufacturer displayed its new scooter concept - the Yamaha Ray - at the 2012 Auto Expo. The scooter has been designed with women in mind, and has pink highlights and a rather pleasant stance. Our eyes at the Expo claim the women were gushing over the scooter, but that could also be due to the presence of a certain John Abraham at the show.Other scooters on display were from the ASEAN market and included the Mio, Fino and Xeon. Usual suspects like the R1 and VMax were also at the stall. As was a Fiery Red limited edition of the R15, as well as a celebratory 50th anniversary of Yamaha edition R15. Suzuki Motorcycle India Private limited has launched two new products at the 2012 Auto Expo - a motorcycle called the Hayate and a scooter called the Swish 125. The 'Hayate', Japanese for 'Fresh breeze' or 'Swift wind', is a 110 cc motorcycle that is targeted at first-time motorcycle owners and also at people who want a competent and frugal commuter. Pricing for the Hayate hasn't been announced as yet. The Swish 125 is a scooter for the urban youngster and also for the young modern couple of India. Power comes from a 4-stroke 125 cc single that puts out 6.4 KW at 7000 rpm and 9.8 NM of torque. The twist-and-go scooter features CVT and telescopic front forks, drum brakes at either end and revised aerodynamic styling. Under seat storage comprises of a 20 litre capacity while fuel tank capacity is 6 litres. Austrian sports bike maker KTM today said it would launch its first motorcycle, jointly developed with Bajaj Auto Ltd, in India at the Auto Expo to be held in the capital early next year.The company, in which Bajaj Auto holds a 40% stake, had already launched its first co-developed bike in Europe in March this year. "During the Delhi Auto Expo next year, we will be launching the first 200-cc Duke bike in India," Cross Industries AG CEO and also the CEO of KTM Sportmotorcycle AG, Stefan Pierer, told reporters here.The bike will be produced at the Pune facility of Bajaj Auto, he added.About the company's sales target in India, Pierer said: "We expect to sell 25,000 to 30,000 units in India in the first year of launch. Yamaha has an impressive array of exotic machinery on display at the 10th Auto Expo in Delhi. Valentino Rossi's MotoGP ride, the YZR-M1 is the obvious centre of attraction while the VMAX, TMAX scooter, XJ6 naked and the 2010 YZF-R1 compete for attention.
