The Xbox 360 faces a dearth of racing sims. Benchmark “Forza Motorsport 2” saw release almost two years ago and its sequel, despite the rumors, has yet to receive an official release date. Instead we racing fans turned to arcade racers like the “Need for Speed” series or “GRID” to quench the addiction, but never felt quite satisfied with the product. Developer SimBin aims to have a solution with its latest, “Race Pro.” Promising a wide variety of racing from 350 licensed cars on 13 tracks, “Race Pro” could be the fix sim junkies have been looking for. The developer promises an all-out simulation with realistic physics, handling and sound. We’re inclined to believe them after considering SimBin’s track record — the company has spent years crating racing simulations based off FIA series (think PC titles “GTR,” “GT Legends” and “Race”). The 350 cars come from varying series; … [Read more...] about Jumping in the Game: “Race Pro” Simulation Coming to Xbox 360

If you hate DiRT 2, the reasons won’t be the graphics or gameplay. You will hate it because it is sickeningly addicting and a refreshing alternative to tarmac-based racing games. The two biggest racing game franchises out today — Forza and Gran Turismo — pride themselves on making users feel like Michael Schumacher: precise, cerebral, and devoid of emotion on the track. Your virtual career will be spent on winding, paved circuits, some of which are very well recognized by auto enthusiasts around the world. In the spirit of action sports, DiRT 2 takes a more lighthearted approach to the world of professional racing by combining fast-paced, off-road racing with amusing quips, unique challenges, and humorous vehicle accessories. Big-name personas, such as Ken Block, Dave Mirra, and Tanner Foust, even become your virtual “friends,” chiming in from time to time as you progress through the game. The centerpiece of DiRT 2 is the extensive single-player campaign … [Read more...] about Game Review: DiRT 2 for XBOX 360

A true SEGA arcade classic is now available to play on Xbox One, as Daytona USA joins the console’s backwards compatibility list. The re-release that was initially launched on the Xbox 360 back in 2011 joins the ever growing list of last generation titles to be playable on the latest Microsoft console. Daytona USA was highly regarded as one of the defining titles of the racing genre when it first arrived in arcades back in the 1990s. With an iconic soundtrack, colourful graphics and addicting gameplay, it took plenty of cash from those desperate to master the NASCAR-inspired racer. Some consider it SEGA’s finest racing title ever, and the success of the original lead to three other titles in the mainline series — though none quite captured the magic of the original. The racer was primarily developed by SEGA’s AM2 division, which was also responsible for classics like OutRun and Scud Race from the same era. The team is generally hailed as a pioneer of … [Read more...] about Daytona USA is Now on Xbox One via Backward Compatibility
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not Christmas. Black Friday has grown immensely in recent years: originally a North American tradition, its influence has spread across the globe and now most countries have their own equivalent sale period each November. The games industry is no stranger to getting involved and Microsoft have just announced the discounts to expect from their digital Xbox Store. The list is long and hearty, with deals across every genre imaginable and through both generations of the Xbox brand. However, the most notable inclusions are those from the racing genre — and there are some tempting deals vouching for your hard-earned cash providing you have Gold membership. On Xbox One, the true stand-out is the inclusion of DiRT Rally. The simulation venture by Codemasters came out on console this year and we loved it. You’ll be able to redeem a huge 60% discount which brings the title down to $24/£22 – and you’ll get a lot … [Read more...] about Xbox Store’s Black Friday Sale Includes Tempting Racing Deals
While summer may soon end, the video game industry is going to heat up as we head into autumn. Of the myriad games releasing, this year will also bear witness to another console release: Xbox One X. The revised Xbox is Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s PS4 Pro. More specifically, the One X is the answer to trailing behind the PS4 in terms of horsepower this console generation. When released this November, the One X is likely to give Microsoft a leg up in this generation’s console war. But is the Xbox One X worth the $499 asking price? Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter certainly doesn’t think so. Speaking with GamingBolt, Pachter expressed concerns over the console’s price, noting it prevents it from any meaningful market penetration. What’s interesting is Pachter relates the One X’s price to a false equivalency: “You always hear these false equivalencies about what things cost… so you’ll hear things like ‘Xbox One … [Read more...] about Is The Xbox One X Too Expensive?
