Though it has made use of fiberglass and composite body panels for a long time, the Corvette is rarely used as a platform for extensive body modifications or kit cars, likely owing to the price premium over the Pontiac Fiero. INNOTECH plans to change that. The small, Czech outfitter was last heard from years ago when they debuted their Mysterro boutique sports car. The company is back now, and this time its engineers are taking C6 Corvettes under the knife for some Italian-inspired styling. For now, unique front and rear fascias, faux C-pillars, and an optional louvered hood are available, and the company promises many more body parts are on the way. All the parts are made from either fiberglass or carbon fiber. Inside, they can set you up with fine Italian or English leather, as well as replace your heavy stock seats with leather-covered carbon fiber buckets. Under the hood, INNOTECH has plenty of options planned. New headers and mufflers open up the exhaust flow and the company says … [Read more...] about INNOTECH Corvette: American Craftsmanship, Italian Style, Czech Design, 1000 HP

Yesterday, we caught word that John Hennessey’s long-awaited Venom GT supercar would finally make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year, so we put in a call to Hennessey and picked up a few more details on his latest hyper-powered creation. As we noted yesterday, the Venom GT looks an awful lot like a Lotus Exige S, and that’s because it is one –and more. Hennessey has stretched that Exige nearly2 feet in length and nearly a foot in width to accommodate the big engines and much, much higher power levels. And what engines they are. As we revealed yesterday, the base model Venom GT will come with a tuned-up version of the Corvette ZR1’s supercharged LS9 engine, only instead of making 638 hp, it will make 750 hp. Hennessey has already done a great deal of testing on this engine inits ZR700 Corvette with former GM hot-shoe John Heinricy at the wheel and has found it to be very reliable, even at the higher power level. If that somehow isn’t enough for … [Read more...] about Hennessey Venom GT to Make Up To 1,200 hp, Hit 0-60 in 2.2 Secs, Cost $600,000
It started with a sketch and a promise. Just shy of 10 months ago, John Hennessey sent us a rendering of a customized 2010 Chevrolet Camaro with an attached note promising a Corvette ZR1 engine tuned up to 705 hp. After months of teasing, it’s here. Meet the Hennessey HPE700 Camaro. It’s grown up since Hennessey first whispered its name. The tuned 6.2L supercharged LS9 V-8 now wears long-tube headers and pumps out a thundering 725 hp and 741 lb-ft of torque, enough to rocket the car to 60 mph in just 3.5 secs and down the quarter-mile in just 11.3 secs at 126 mph. Hennessey says the car is actually good for even quick quarter-mile E/Ts, but is limited by traction issues. An upgraded clutch, flywheel and shifter do their part to help put that power down, but they can only do so much. This isn’t just some one-trick, straight-line muscle car, though. Six-piston Brembo calipers dig into 15-in. front brakes while four-piston calipers attack the 14-in. rear brakes. All that … [Read more...] about 2009 SEMA EXCLUSIVE: The 725-hp, LS9-Powered Hennessey HPE700 Camaro Is Here!
Carroll Shelby has almost taken on the aura of a deity to automotive enthusiasts—this man was responsible for not only the cars that bore his name like the Shelby Cobra, Daytona Coupe, and the GT350 and GT500 Ford Shelby Mustangs, but also for beloved cars like the Dodge Omni GLH and the Viper. The 950-hp Shelby 1000 Mustang, then, is a 50th anniversary present from Mr. Shelby to himself and enthusiasts—but is it worth the $200,000 asking price? Sure, one could argue that since the Shelby 1000 is limited to only 100 units that its collector value will only increase. But (forgive us for this next bit of blasphemy) let’s just call a spade a spade: the Shelby 1000 is little more than a Yes, the Shelby 1000 makes a conservative 950 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque out of its supercharged 5.4-liter V-8, but it’s not revolutionary like the original 289 Cobra or Daytona Coupe. Some enthusiasts might find the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 a much more interesting Mustang. The … [Read more...] about Thread of the Day: Is $ 200K Too Much for a 950-HP Shelby 1000 Mustang?
Hennessey Performance is no stranger to big power upgrades for machines already potent in stock form, and the tuning firm now has four kits for those that want more than 455-460 hp from their 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The company announced its forced induction plans for the new ‘Vette shortly after the car’s debut in Detroit, and now official details of Hennessey’s new supercharger and twin-turbocharger kits reveal power boosts from 600 hp all the way up to 1000 hp. The 600-hp HPE600 Supercharged Upgrade includes a TVS2300 supercharger (similar to the supercharger used on the 638-hp C6 Corvette ZR1), HPE air intake, and air engine management calibration. Stepping up to the 700-hp HPE700 Supercharged Upgrade adds CNC ported cylinder heads and a custom HPE camshaft. Both supercharged upgrade kits are available with the seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions and come with a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty. The HPE600 kit is priced at $12,495 … [Read more...] about Hennessey Kits for 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Deliver 500-1000 HP
Another Nürburgring lap record, this time for a series production electric vehicle – the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive becomes the first production EV to do the Nordschleife under eight minutes, clocking 7:56.234 minutes to eclipse the previous best time of 8:09.099 set by the Audi R8 e-tron last July. The vehicle with which Mercedes-AMG set up the record on the 20.832 km course corresponds to the series version, which celebrates its launch this month. The car was unveiled in Paris last October. Four electrical motors with a total output of 751 hp and 1000 Nm make it the most powerful AMG model currently. As the video of the run suggests, there’s plenty of push, but it doesn’t look like the lightest or nimblest thing to steer about. Still, definitely can’t say it isn’t fast or uninvolving to drive! … [Read more...] about Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive sets Nurburgring lap record for series production EVs
Shelby American said its next model wouldn’t be Mustang-based, and it wasn’t kidding. Now, the company has unveiled the latest addition to its specialty vehicle lineup, the Shelby Raptor. Starting with a 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, Shelby added more power and its signature graphics to create the unique performance pickup that took the stage at the New York auto show. The already impressive SVT Raptor is upgraded with a 2.9-liter supercharger, which boosts power of the 6.2-liter V-8 from 411 hp to 575 hp. Helping the force-fed eight-cylinder breathe easier is a Shelby Borla exhaust system, while the stock six-speed automatic transmits its power to all four wheels. Those wheels are shod in 35-inch Goodrich All-Terrain tires, and a custom wheel design is also available. Three graphics packages will be offered, each helping to set the Shelby Raptor apart from lesser, non-supercharged models. The Shelby Raptor package starts at $17,995 and does not include the cost of the base … [Read more...] about Shelby Raptor Packs 575-HP Supercharged V-8 – 2013 New York
The power of the new Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG is quite overwhelming. It originates from a 6.0 litre V12 biturbo (or twin turbo if you prefer), which is not exactly new. It is a heavily revised version of the M 275, earning the new name of M 279. Or simply put, this engine has added fastness – lots of it. New to the engine are the exhaust gas turbochargers with an increased spiral cross-section, manifolds and wastegate ducts. Multi-spark ignition with 12 double ignition coils makes the feel of the engine smooth. The exhaust escapes the car through optimised catalytic converters and the new AMG sports exhaust that weighs 3.2 kg lighter than the old one. Partnering the engine is the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-tronic, a first for AMG. Wider gear ratios, a new fuel economy torque convertor, reduced friction bearings and transmission-oil thermal management improves the gearbox’s efficiency. The numbers? 630 hp with 1,000 Nm of twist, 0-100 km/h is done in 4.0 seconds and an … [Read more...] about Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG: 650 hp and 1,000 Nm
NOTE: This article is updated regularly. Even if you fancy yourself the next Lewis Hamilton, the best way to become a better high-performance driver is to take lessons from folks who know more than you do. That’s where performance driving schools come in: Located at racetracks around the country, these schools feature a curriculum designed to help you master car control on a road course, including turning, braking, throttle application and mental training.High-performance driving schools differ from true racing schools, though the latter often require that the former be completed first. Driving schools focus on the driver’s relationship with his or her car, with a goal of improving solo lap times. Racing schools are significantly different due to their focus on wheel-to-wheel racing in a dedicated race car.Bottom line: If you have a 911, M3 or Corvette (or even a beater Civic) in the garage and you want to knock off tenths at a local track day or club event, these … [Read more...] about High-performance driving schools: Your complete guide
BMW Motorrad released the S 1000 RR superbike in 2010, but for those who'd like to take it down a (small) notch, the German motorcycle maker introduced the 2014 S 1000 R, a slightly less-ballsy version of the range-topping superbike, at EICMA on Tuesday. In its transformation from 193-horsepower superbike to 160-hp sportbike, BMW detuned the 999cc inline four-cylinder engine a bit by lowering the redline from 13,000 RPM to 11,000 RPM, where peak power is made. Torque is rated at "approximately" 83 pound-feet (the RR makes 82.5 lb-ft), but more importantly, engineers tweaked the torque delivery in the R's favor by redesigning the cylinder-head ducts, modifying the camshaft profiles and reprogramming the engine management system. The result is seven lb-ft more torque than the RR up to 7,500 RPM. The R's torque peak occurs at 9,250 RPM.The bike comes standard with ASC (automatic stability control) and "Race" ABS. Riders can choose between two modes, "Road" and "Rain," which adjust ABS and … [Read more...] about BMW unleashes 160-hp S 1000 R streetfighter motorcycle
