I'm sitting at a traffic light on a nine-lane road bisecting a blight of car dealers, warehouse eateries and chain stores. My opponent is driving a white Elantra with almost enough body mods to disguise its humble origins, but not quite. I can hear the Hyundai's hamster wheel whining over the top of the Mustang's bellowing V8. Clearly, the Korean whip has about as much chance of outrunning the GT as an octogenarian jogger. It’s easy to have mixed feelings about the 2005-2009 Mustang GT. It’s handsome, for the money you paid you got pretty good V8 power and it was fast enough. Where the (suddenly) last-gen Mustang falls down is the lowest bidder interior, questionable handling and non-track day brakes. “Listen baby I had a great time, but don’t lose any sleep sitting by the phone.” But hey, Ford’s prepped a (kinda) all new steed for 2010 and you can bet Mullally’s golden ‘chute that Mustang engineers have been hard at work addressing the above issues. Well, except for the brakes.If you have an internet connection and a passing interest in cars, you’ve already sick of seeing the redesigned ‘Stang. But in person, it’s much better looking than in 2D. The most significant update—besides the controversial new looks—was the availability of MagneRide magnetorheological adaptive dampers, which were previously available only on the Shelby GT350. Ford has thrown another blow at Chevy in the never-ending Mustang versus Camaro war. The Blue Oval has finally shared engine specs on the refreshed 2018 Mustang lineup, and we’d say it’s definitely not a coincidence that the Stang’s updated 5.0-liter V-8’s new output of 460 horsepower (25 more than before) beats the Chevrolet Camaro SS’s 6.2-liter V-8 by 5 horsepower. The EcoBoost Mustang—now the only other engine choice with the base V-6 gone to pasture—also gets an update, resulting in an additional 30 lb-ft of torque, although horsepower remains unchanged at 310.The 2018 Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 gets its extra power and an additional 20 lb-ft of torque (for a total of 420 lb-ft, 35 less than the Camaro SS) from myriad updates including a fuel-delivery system that employs both direct and port injection, a higher redline, and a new variable exhaust. The pricing for the options on the 2015 Ford Mustang has gone live on the ordering screens of Ford dealers across the nation, and the internet is all abuzz with juicy morsels of product information. From what we’ve seen so far, it appears that there will be five different basic models: a 3.7-liter V-6 (P8A), a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with EcoBoost (P8T), a 5.0-liter V-8 GT (P8C), a special 50th Anniversary GT (P8R), and an SVT (P8J) which is rumored to be the next Shelby. All that is missing, sadly, is the base pricing…There will be a 50 Years appearance package—which isn’t the same as the loaded, GT-based 50th Anniversary Edition which debuted at the New York auto show—for $1595.
