The Indian car market is going through a shift. A few years back, people were running behind big sized SUVs, but now the focus is on compact vehicles instead. The increase in fuel costs and traffic congestion has led to compact sized vehicles becoming the preferred choice for most. SUVs have always been a favorite, thanks to their go anywhere ability and muscular styling. So can you have the best of both worlds? Looks like compact SUV is the answer. When Ford unveiled the EcoSport at the 2012 Auto Expo, everyone took notice, especially rival car makers. Renault had already decided to bring the Duster and is now reaping the benefits of launching it quickly. The high demand for compact SUVs has made almost all car makers develop one of their own. GM was quick to bring out the Trax in global markets, while Hyundai and Honda are already working on compact SUVs based on the existing platforms. Toyota doesn’t want to be left behind and is contemplating a compact SUV on the Etios … [Read more...] about Are Compact SUVs The Future?
The Indian automotive market is seing a mass of people who wish to own an SUV for its practicality. It is quite evident that having an SUV gives a much better image than other vehicles due to its go anywhere ability. Many carmakers have brought their bigger SUVs to the Indian market but due to the larger number of cars running on the Indian roads, the focus has shifted towards owning a compact SUV rather than a bigger one. The automaker that first came out with a compact SUV was Premier with their RiO but due to the less number of showrooms, the vehicle has not seen many going for it. This unseen segment was then seen by many carmakers but the company that came up early was Renault, with the Duster. Since then, the Duster has been a massive hit for the French automaker. The Duster is sold in India under the Renault badge, rather than Dacia’s. It has now seen a long queue of buyers waiting to buy the SUV. The Renault Duster is running high on success as it does not have any other … [Read more...] about Compact SUVs To Rock The Indian Market

The dorky looking Renegade might currently be the smallest Jeep there is; but the iconic American manufacturer is planning to position a new compact SUV under the Renegade to be launched globally in the future. While the baby Jeep is still a few years away from seeing the production line, Jeep is planning to bring a new flagship SUV called the Grand Wagoneer, which will be a proper seven-seater, full-sized SUV, currently under development. The compact Jeep SUV will have to undergo several engineering challenges, as the company does not have a platform to support such a small SUV in its lineup. Much like the Renegade uses the Fiat 500’s platform; the Jeep junior could be based on the next generation Fiat 500 and would extensively cut on CO2 emissions with the light body and small capacity engines. The company is currently under pressure on reducing its CO2 output. The Jeep Renegade uses Fiat’s Small Wide architecture platform that was heavily modified to fit to the needs … [Read more...] about Jeep Plans Compact SUV Below Renegade, To Rival EcoSport
The proportion of four-wheeler vehicles on Indian roads is currently highly dynamic. Gone are those days when the sub-continent population used to use a handful of models. The perished Ambassador and Premier had to give way to hatchbacks from Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors; the two supremos had quite a good run. The scenario had rapidly changed since the introduction of international carmakers in early 2000’s which was coupled with the change in demands of customers. Now the roads are ruled by Sports Utility Vehicles, compact SUV’s; and that the Crossover Utility Vehicles trend has kicked off in the market needs no introduction. These crossovers have been based on popular sedan or hatchback models therefore are based on the same platform with relative similar features. The popularity of this type of design … [Read more...] about Skyrocketing Demand Of Compact SUVs To Rule The Future?
Despite being primarily a SUV and UV manufacturer, Mahindra failed to tap into the compact SUV market at the right time. The company did get a head-start with the Quanto in 2012, but the product’s poor dynamics did not qualify it to rival the super success of the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and the likes in the segment. However, learning from its mistakes the Indian utility manufacturer will now be launching two new compact SUVs in the country next year that will give Mahindra a strong position in the segment. Mahindra most recently accepted that the company missed the compact SUV trend, which commenced a year earlier than they originally anticipated. Nonetheless, the utility maker has two products in the pipeline tucked under the 4-metre mark that will be competing in the highly contested compact SUV segment. First up is the S101 compact SUV that is expected to be an EcoSport rival. It follows just six months after the unveiling of the electric I-Pace at the LA motor show. With the mid-sized F-Pace SUV making up more than half of the brand’s overall sales since it was launched last year and buyers preferring highriding vehicles to traditional saloons such as the XE and XF, Jaguar’s growing range of SUVs will be key to the brand’s future success. As well as the E-Pace, F-Pace and I-Pace, a large SUV called the J-Pace will go on sale by 2019. The compact E-Pace, which is set to be a bigger seller than the larger F-Pace, is fundamental to those plans. While the F-Pace has had a major effect on Jaguar sales, the E-Pace promises to catapult the premium brand forward in the same way that the Range Rover Evoque has done for Land Rover. The five-seat E-Pace, which will rival the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, is a similar size to the Evoque and will be … [Read more...] about Jaguar E-Pace – new compact SUV to become best-selling Jaguar
