Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd plans to start CKD assembly of Hyundai SUVs by mid-2007, in efforts to capture a bigger share of the non-national car market. Hyundai’s Malaysian SUV offerings currently consist of the Tucson crossover SUV and the Santa Fe SUV. The Tucson is a small SUV going on head to head with likes of the Ford Escape, and the Hyundai Santa Fe competes with the bigger boys like the Honda CR-V. Local assembly of the Hyundai Getz 1.4 with an Inokom badge has managed to drop the price by about RM10,000 – so I guess we can expect a CKD Santa Fe soon, with the Tucson coming later, similiar to the route Naza took with local assembly of the Kia Sorento first, and possible assembly of the Sportage in the future. … [Read more...] about CKD Hyundai SUVs soon
The current boom in small SUV sales is manna from heaven for car manufacturers. Consumers are prepared to pay thousands of pounds extra for the elevated driving position and perceived status that such models convey, even though they’re fundamentally no bigger than a standard hatch and cost little more to manufacture. Nissan led the way, first with the Qashqai and then with the smaller Juke, and by stealing a march it has carved a lucrative niche. Little wonder, then, that others are following close behind - and investigating ways to leapfrog their opposition. The question the manufacturers face is how far they can stretch the car-buying public’s acceptance of the theme. Can a city car be adapted to look and feel like a credible SUV? And, most crucially, will people pay a premium for the experience, and will that be enough, given the infamously slight profit margins on small cars? It will be a brave manufacturer that jumps into the A-segment SUV arena first. Read more: … [Read more...] about How small could a Hyundai SUV go?
Discarded plastic water bottles – 900 of them – make up the front wings of this X5-sized cross-over concept, this being one of over 30 innovations contained within its swoopy lines. QarmaQ – the name is derived from traditional Inuit dwellings, and no, we don’t know how to pronounce it either – is a collaboration with automotive supplier GE Plastics. A major feature is an elastic front-end body structure improving pedestrian impact protection that’s currently undergoing testing. Like many QarmaQ features it may appear on various Hyundais to be launched between 2008-14. The body panels are up to 50 per cent lighter, but more impressive is that their recycled plastic does not degrade during the regeneration process, which is why plastic bottles – a major global pollution issue – can be used. QarmaQ also features glass that’s 50 per cent lighter, the laminate largely being made of Lexan (a super-tough plastic), which has a thin layer … [Read more...] about Hyundai SUV concept has a lot of bottle
Kia has started testing the prototype production line equipment for next year's Hyundai i35x crossover, which will be built at its plant in Zilina in Slovakia. The Tucson replacement will become the first non-Kia car to be built at the Slovakian factory when production starts next year. Twitter - follow autocar.co.uk However the engine facility at the plant already makes identical but rebadged units for both manufacturers. Sources say that, for marketing reasons and much to Hyundai's frustration, the ix35 will not be offered with the seven-year warranty that is standard on all Kias built at the hi-tech plant. The car will instead come with Hyundai's traditional five-year deal. Jim Holder See all the latest Hyundai reviews, news and video … [Read more...] about Kia prepares to build Hyundai SUV
Honda’s airbag issue from last year is back, with the automaker announcing yet another expansion of a recall involving the driver side airbag inflator module. 2001 to 2003 Honda and Acura models will be recalled due to airbags that “may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality.” 2001 to 2003 Honda and Acura Vehicles The Problem: Honda discovered faulty modules floating around the supply chain and that 2,430 of those units have been installed in vehicles requiring airbag service or repair. ► Eight months in Hyundai's SUV ► Roomy, affordable and practical ► CAR magazine's full long-term testIf it hadn’t been for peskily unseasonable weather we might have given the Santa Fe a harder time in Kielder Forest. This was to be the moment of truth, the bit where our likeable Korean SUV finally tiptoed beyond the verge and revealed itself to be officially ‘no Land Rover’. A week earlier, our recce team claim, these green lanes were muddier than a Mississippi pie, but today they’re baked hard.Still, we try. After all, I’ve driven 300 miles to be here, and in the process further reinforced the Hyundai’s credentials as a sublime consumer of motorways. Its ride is composed like a symphony, flattening other-planet-spec surfaces yet still offering up enough feedback to keep you interested. Although no kind of performance car, once the Santa Fe tastes the torque cream at around 2000rpm it hauls and hauls, pretty much non-stop to … [Read more...] about Hyundai Santa Fe (2015) long-term test review
Even before Creta set its foot in the Indian market, customers lined up to book this Hyundai SUV. After 4 months of its launch, the car is performing well in the market and was the best selling SUV before Bolero took over the tag with just a few hundred units more. Continuing its successful trail, Creta again received a good response in the overseas markets . Hyundai has sold 70,000 units in India and recorded around 15,770 bookings and orders globally and is now planning to further increase the production of Creta from 9,000 units to 10,000 units to meet global demand. The international market for Creta mainly include Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. In October, … [Read more...] about Hyundai’s Creta Crosses 70,000 Mark; Eyes Global Market
SEATTLE – Lamborghinis may be faster out of the gate, but it appears that Hyundai SUVs may have the edge when it comes to braking, at least in one instance. Motorist Kelly Davis snapped this picture of a traffic accident on Interstate 5 near Seattle Monday morning. The Hyundai Santa Fe hit the brakes in traffic, and the Lamborghini behind it wasn’t able to stop that quickly, sliding under the Hyundai. No one was hurt in the accident.Yes, well, someone’s pride sure got dinged. [Thanks to Don1967 for the link] … [Read more...] about Hyundai Outbrakes Lamborghini. Allegedly.
Overall Rating: The three-row crossover is a staple of American family life, and there are a lot of them to choose. Hyundai’s Santa Fe is one of the rare elegantly styled choices, but it comes with compromises to cargo and third-row passenger space. Its V-6 powertrain offers towing muscle but lags behind most rivals in both acceleration and fuel efficiency. This largest Hyundai SUV comes well equipped even in base SE trim, though, and quickly gets luxurious with a short walk up the option list. Its infotainment and active safety offerings aren’t as up to date as newer crossovers from Volkswagen and General Motors, but for some customers the Santa Fe’s value, warranty coverage, looks, and overall comfort may make up for those shortcomings. What’s New for 2017? Hyundai’s three-row crossover sees a plethora of updates for 2017. A cosmetic freshening of the exterior includes redesigned front and rear styling, new taillights, dual exhaust … [Read more...] about 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai has teased its entry into the subcompact crossover segment in the past but only acknowledged that it would have at least one thin LED headlamp, be called the Kona, and finally serve round out the company’s SUV lineup. On Friday, the company released another teaser to give us a better sense of what the little crossover will actually look like. For starters, the thin LED strips are now running lamps positioned above the vehicle’s actual headlights, à la Nissan Juke. However, Hyundai appears to have accomplished it in a much more understated manner than Nissan. Unlike the Juke, the Kona has its light strips running just below the hood opening and very near the actual illumination sources. It’s a lot less funky, but should be interesting enough to set it apart from the rest of the segment — an important consideration, as there’s much more stylistic variation between subcompact crossovers than between their compact … [Read more...] about The Little Kona Crossover is the Future Face of Hyundai’s SUVs
