We are not even a week into 2018 and the new year already looks promising. While Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the launch of a new car along with a high profile facelift, other carmakers are not far behind and are lining up updated versions of their sedans for the new year. Yesterday, we talked about the 10 upcoming hatchbacks that are set to be launched in the country. Today, we take a look at 10 sedans that will come to India in 2018. 1. Maruti Ciaz Facelift Launched in 2014, the Ciaz has plodded on without any major update. The Ciaz is clearly due for a facelift as we have spotted test mules of the sedan sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa chain of dealerships undergoing rigorous testing in the country. From the spy shots, it is quite evident that the facelift will be quite mild. Changes are expected to be limited to the grille, headlamps, tail lamps and wheels. However, there could be a massive surprise under the bonnet. We expect Maruti Suzuki to … [Read more...] about 10 Sedans Launching In 2018

The current Toyota Vios has not even received its mid-life facelift yet, and already purported initial details of the next-generation model have been revealed through a report by Indian news publication Mint. Slated for a January 2018 launch in India, the new B-segment sedan is slated to be a global model. The last time the Vios was designed as such was with the previous-generation model, sold as the Belta in Japan and the Yaris Sedan in North America – the latter has since been replaced in Canada with a new version based on the Mazda 2 Sedan. “It is a full model change of Vios that will be sold across the globe,” said a source close to Toyota in India. “India is doing much more work than just localising the model.” Tweaked slightly for the Indian market, the new model will reportedly be sold with 1.6 litre petrol and diesel mills there – the former, likely the Dual VVT-i ZR engine used in the facelifted previous-generation Corolla Altis, probably … [Read more...] about Next-gen Toyota Vios to go global, use 1.6L engines?
A big thank you to BHPian Sandy_AR for sharing these images with fellow enthusiasts! Rumours of the Toyota Vios's launch in India have been afloat for over a year now. While no official statement has confirmed the sedan's prospects in our sub-continent, the 3rd generation Vios has just been spied on test in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is still unknown if the Vios is on test purely for r&d purposes or if the Japanese automaker plans to launch the car in India. If the Vios (also known as the Yaris in some markets) is launched in India, it will fill in the C2 segment void that stands between C1 segment Etios and D1 segment Corolla Altis. Engine options could include the 1.5-litre petrol that is currently in use on the Etios, as well as the 1.4-litre diesel that powers Toyota's only sub 10 lakh sedan in the country. Globally, the Vios is available with a 5-speed manual as well as a 4-speed automatic transmission. Rivals for the Vios in India will include the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen … [Read more...] about Scoop! Toyota Vios caught testing in Bangalore
Owing to the fact that low budget Toyota cars have failed to fetch expected sales in the Indian market, the company is keeping the particular segment aside, as of now. Instead, Toyota’s focus right now is towards their high priced vehicles. Therefore, a company official has stated that the Japanese carmaker is planning to launch the Yaris hatchback but, not soon, perhaps in 2018. Expressing a hint of disappointment, Toyota’s managing director had said that the Etios, launched in 2010, did not go well as per the sales as Indian customers are preferring various other options. Toyota stands in the Indian market with just 5 percent of market share, whereas its rivals have succeeded in acquiring a better position with their offerings that match Indian customer preferences. Talking about the Toyota Yaris, it is a subcompact hatchback and, when launched, it would be one of the most cost-effective offering by the company. Currently, it is available with three and five door options … [Read more...] about Toyota Yaris India Launch Confirmed, Will Be Tweaked For India
Toyota has been struggling to capture a significant share in the Indian auto market. While the Innova and Corolla were Toyota’s mainstay products for the longest period, the automaker’s foray into the volume hatchback and entry-level sedan space failed miserably with the birth of the Etios twins. Now, realigning its strategy for India, the company has decided to launch the Vios C-segment mid-size sedan in 2017 confirming our earlier reports on the same. The Vios is still three years away and Toyota seems to be too late to the C-segment party where there are more than 8 models, making it the most competitive segment. Toyota will produce the Vios locally at the automaker’s Bidadi plant alongside the Etios. While a definite scale of investment has not been decided, the company is planning to start utilising the free production lines at the facility by producing around 50,000 units of the Vios annually. The next generation Etios is due for launch in 2016 and Toyota could … [Read more...] about Vios India Launch In 2017, Is Toyota Late To C-Segment Party?
The Toyota Vios is being tested in India and a launch is very probable next year. The vehicle will share engines with the Etios and will be priced at a premium like all Toyota cars. Multiple reports suggested the launch of the Vios in India and now the vehicle has been spotted for the first time in the country, in Bangalore. Toyota has a plant in Bidadi which is near Bangalore so one can expect the company to launch the Vios in the country later this year. The automaker hasn’t been doing very well with sales mostly coming form its UVs, the Innova and Fortuner while the Corolla also manages good numbers. The Etios twins (or is it triplets with the Etios Cross?) have failed to live up to the company’s expectations, the Camry doesn’t sell either. The Toyota Vios makes a lot of sense in the Indian car market, more so for Toyota as the company has the Etios in the C1 segment (entry-level C-segment) and the Corolla in the D1 segment (lower D-segment, Camry sits in the D2 … [Read more...] about Toyota Vios Spotted On Test In India, Launch Likely Next Year
Toyota recently launched the Prius C, where the C stands for city. American magazine Consumer Reports reviewed the vehicle recently and have given their verdict on it. According to Consumer Reports the Toyota Prius C is not good enough to be recommended. The Prius C is the third member of the Prius family and is ranked by the EPA as the most fuel efficient compact car of 2012, when plug-in electric vehicles are excluded. Now according to the Consumer Reports the Toyota Prius C is a bit different story. The magazine reports that the Prius C is based on the Toyota Yaris which itself is not a brilliant car. The American Magazine also stated the new hybrid suffers from a very noisy cabin, dead steering, slow acceleration and to heat up the list a cheap looking interior too. Consumer Reports also mentioned that Toyota Prius C scores so less in the tests conducted that they will not recommend the consumers to have one. The magazine also reported some bits in favor of the new hybrid … [Read more...] about Consumer Reports Doesn’t Recommend Toyota Prius C
Toyota will be launching the Etios and Etios Liva with diesel power later this week (9th September) and till date everyone was expecting a 76 BHP oil burner to power these India made models. Toyota is using the same 1.4-liter D-4D motor which does duty in the Corolla Altis, sans the variable geometry turbo. Thus the Etios twins will produce 68 BHP of power in diesel guise, which will help the car achieve close to 22 kmpl of mileage as certified by ARAI. Dealers have already commenced the bookings of the diesel models and you too can book yours for Rs. 50,000/-. We don’t understand why Toyota chose to reduce power further, with the competition offering more power in their machines. The Indigo Manza which can give the Etios sedan a run for its money when it comes to space, comes with a 90 BHP version of the famous Fiat Multijet engine. Futhermore, quality of the Manza is on par with the Toyota if not better. When it comes to hatchbacks, the Etios Liva doesn’t have any … [Read more...] about Toyota Etios & Liva Get 68 BHP Diesel Engines
